How to Use Essential Oils in Your Homes

Are you still wondering how to use essential oils in your homes? Wonder no more because here is a list of the many ways essential oils can be beneficial for a lot of things.

In Your Kitchen

Essential oils can be used as an ingredient in your favorite cleaning solution.

For your kitchen sink, try mixing equal parts of baking soda and vinegar then add a few drops of lime oil. Use this mixture to scrub your sink to remove mildew and stains.

After scrubbing, let it sit on your sink for about ten minutes before rinsing. Your sink will be sparkling clean after this.

You can also try using lemon oil to disinfect your dishcloth and sponges.

Just add about 5 drops of lemon oil in a basin of water and soak your sponge and dishcloth in it overnight.

Essential Oils For Your Bedrooms

You would definitely want your bedrooms to be the most comfortable place in your home because this is where you rest after a long day at work.

You can make your bedroom more relaxing by using lavender oil in your essential oil diffuser.

You can expect to have a sound and restful sleep with this aroma wafting through your room overnight.

If the carpet in your bedroom needs to be cleaned, you can do so easily by using baking soda.

This is very effective in removing the musty odor that emanates from the carpet.

Of course, aside from eliminating odor, you would want to disinfect your carpet and essential oils can do just that because of their antibacterial property.

Therefore, add some lemon, peppermint, or geranium oil in your baking soda before sprinkling it on your carpet.

Let it sit there for an hour or more before removing with a vacuum cleaner.

Condition Your Hair

Too much chemical and heat treatment can leave your hair dry and damage.

Rejuvenate those strands and breathe new life to them by giving your hair a hot oil treatment once a week.

Mix jojoba oil (acts as carrier oil) and the essential oil of your choice. Massage the mixture on your scalp with circular motions.

After that, wrap your head with a hot towel for thirty minutes before washing off the oil with shampoo.

Cure Congestion

A change in weather can leave you congested, which can eventually lead to headache and difficulty in breathing or worse to flu.

Stop the congestion right away by heating a bowl of water and then add a few drops of eucalyptus or peppermint oil in it.

Now, find a towel that is large enough to cover your head as you lean over the hot water so as to form a tent.

This way all the steam will be directed to your face so that you can inhale the essential oil molecules that will help unclog your airways.

Essential Oils for Kids

There are so many uses for essential oils when it comes to common problems associated with kids.

For instance, if your child is infected with head lice due to too much time spent outdoors, give your child’s scalp an oil treatment using lavender, geranium, or thyme.

Let the oil sit on the scalp for 30 minutes before washing.

For blisters, scrapes, and bruises, you can use tea tree oil or clove oil since both have antibacterial properties that will prevent the wound from becoming infected.

You can also add a few drops of lavender to it to calm down the swelling.

To prevent mosquito bites, massage citronella oil on your child’s skin before he goes out to play.

And if he comes home with sunburned skin, apply chamomile or lavender oil on the affected area to reduce inflammation.

Freshen Your Clothes

Add a few drops of lavender oil in a spray bottle filled with water and spray this as you iron your clothes.

You can also try soaking a few cotton balls in any essential oil of your desired scent and place these balls in your closet to make your clothes smell good.

You can even place these cotton balls inside your pillow cases.

Air Humidifier

During dry season, use a humidifying oil diffuser to add moisture to the air inside your home.

This type of diffuser requires you to use water in it and you can add any oil that you like to add fragrance to the room or to heal certain illnesses through aromatherapy.

Cheap Perfume

Make your own perfume by mixing your favorite essential oil with 1 oz. of vodka.

Let this mixture age for about two weeks and by then you can start using it like any other ordinary perfume.

The best thing about this is you can actually create your own blend to come up with a scent that really appeals to your senses.

Remove Sticky Residues

It could be because of the food you spilled on a counter-top or the gum that your child left on the table or maybe even the traces of crayon after your child played with it.

To remove this sticky dirt, just wet a cleaning cloth with lemon oil and rub directly on the surface.

There are so many ways on how to use essential oils in your homes and this list does not even comprise half of that.

As you try to become more familiar with the different types of essential oils, you will soon find out their other uses and you may even come up with one of your own.
